WHY VEGAN

FOR THE ANIMALS
Preventing the exploitation of animals is not the only reason for becoming vegan, but for many it remains the key factor in their decision to go vegan and stay vegan. Having emotional attachments with animals may form part of that reason, while many believe that all sentient creatures have a right to life and freedom. Specifics aside, avoiding animal products is one of the most obvious ways you can take a stand against animal cruelty and animal exploitation everywhere.

FOR YOUR HEALTH
More and more people are turning to a vegan diet for the health benefits: increased energy, younger looking skin and eternal youth are just some of the claims from this type of diet. Well planned plant-based diets are rich in protein, iron, calcium and other essential vitamins and minerals. The plant-based sources of these nutrients tend to be low in saturated fat, high in fibre and packed with antioxidants, helping mitigate some of the modern world’s biggest health issues like obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer, among many others.

FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
From recycling our household rubbish to cycling to work, we’re all aware of ways to live a greener life. One of the most effective things an individual can do to lower their carbon footprint is to avoid all animal products.

Toasted Walnut Vinaigrette

Tahini Stuffed Dates

I don’t know about you, but dates are one of my favorite things to snack on.  They’re like an all natural caramel candy & are so delicious.  Sometimes I get bored eating dates by themselves, so I like to try out random combinations of things with them… and when I created these a few weeks […]

Winter Harvest Pasta

So a few weeks ago, I went to the farmers market in hopes of getting some produce to make dinner… but didn’t have any kind of game plan in mind.  I just knew I wanted to get whatever looked good at the moment and make something with that.  When I got there, they had the […]

Rosemary Maple Broiled Grapefruit

I’m usually the type of person who likes big hearty breakfasts consisting of full platters with tofu scramble, toast, sausage, pancakes, etc.- so getting me to indulge in a ‘healthy’ breakfast isn’t always appealing to me.  One of the only things that gets me are these broiled grapefruits with rosemary maple glaze & a side […]

Pistachio Butter

I know all of you have tried the classics- peanut butter, almond butter, hell even cashew butter… right?  But have you ever tried PISTACHIO butter?!  I’m not quite sure why this isn’t sold in stores, because it’s just as easy to make as other nut butters.  Pistachio butter is so delicious on its own, but […]
