WHY VEGAN

FOR THE ANIMALS
Preventing the exploitation of animals is not the only reason for becoming vegan, but for many it remains the key factor in their decision to go vegan and stay vegan. Having emotional attachments with animals may form part of that reason, while many believe that all sentient creatures have a right to life and freedom. Specifics aside, avoiding animal products is one of the most obvious ways you can take a stand against animal cruelty and animal exploitation everywhere.

FOR YOUR HEALTH
More and more people are turning to a vegan diet for the health benefits: increased energy, younger looking skin and eternal youth are just some of the claims from this type of diet. Well planned plant-based diets are rich in protein, iron, calcium and other essential vitamins and minerals. The plant-based sources of these nutrients tend to be low in saturated fat, high in fibre and packed with antioxidants, helping mitigate some of the modern world’s biggest health issues like obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer, among many others.

FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
From recycling our household rubbish to cycling to work, we’re all aware of ways to live a greener life. One of the most effective things an individual can do to lower their carbon footprint is to avoid all animal products.

Golden Milk Porridge with Coconut Milk & Frozen Raspberries

As I was going through the recipes on my site, I came to realize that I have very few breakfast recipes on here!  Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and is the time I can relax before I start my day.  I’ve been obsessed with hot cereal, oatmeal, and porridge lately because I […]

Roasted Cauliflower & Parsnip Soup with Pickled Green Apple

Cauliflower is one of those ingredients that is a staple in vegan cooking, at least in my opinion.  It’s so versatile and has such mild flavor, that you can really adapt it and use it for so many recipes.  I love pairing cauliflower with parsnips, because parsnips also have a mild flavor profile, but add […]

Orange Cardamom Creme Brûlée with Pomegranate

Creme Brûlée is one of those desserts that you can make at home very easily, but looks so decadent- so it’s great for dinner parties, or circumstances where you’re wanting to highly impress your guest.  We flavored ours with orange zest, cardamom, and vanilla bean for a warming flavor, but you can swap out those […]

Pumpkin Pie Cheesecake with Chipotle Chile Ganache & Coconut Cream

Pumpkin to me is one of the best variety of squash to cook with in the fall / winter.  It has a very mild flavor, is easy to work with, and really takes on whatever flavors you add to it.  Its a great squash to use in sweet or savory dishes, and really brings that […]

Shepherd’s Pie

Shepherd’s pie is one of my favorite dishes to make around the holiday’s.  Theres just something about it that is so warming, hearty, and satisfying.  There are plenty of vegan shepherd’s pie recipes out there, but most of them have a bunch of vegetables and all this stuff, and while delicious, doesn’t replicate a true […]
