Dino Nuggets

Happy national tofu day y’all! What better way than to celebrate with some dang VEGAN TOFU DINO NUGGETS?!!? Dino nugs have been all over the internet recently thanks to the brand Yummy Dino Buddies (who do make a frozen vegan version), but since it’s not available everywhere I wanted to make a recipe for you all to easily make them at home! Plus they’re great for back to school (or I guess home / virtual school?) season.

I’m really excited to announce that this recipe is in collaboration with Follow Your Heart! They’re one of my favorite brands, and I’ve gotten so many requests to make more recipes using their products from y’all, since they’re so accessible across the US. The product I used in this recipe is their Ranch Dressing! It’s so dang good and really send this recipe over the top!

Here’s what you’ll need to make them!

  • 3-4 blocks extra firm tofu
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup + ¼ cup flour
  • 2 cups unsweetened plant milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying if you decide to deep fry
  • 1 cup Follow your heart ranch dressing
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce or to taste

Also don’t forget you’ll need some dinosaur cookie cutters! And you can also make these gluten free by using gf flour & gf breadcrumbs!

And here’s how you make them!

  1. Take your tofu and press it well to remove as much moisture as possible. Cut each block in half depth wise, then use dinosaur cookie cutters to cut out as many nuggets as possible. Place in a single layer on a baking tray and place in the freezer overnight until frozen solid.
  2. Get out 3 bowls, in #1 add 1 cup flour + salt to taste, in #2 add plant milk + ¼ cup flour + salt to taste, in #3 add breadcrumbs + salt to taste. Mix all bowls well.
  3. Take your frozen tofu nuggets and dip them in bowl 1, then bowl 2, then bowl 3. Press the breadcrumbs into each nugget. Place them back on the baking sheet in a single layer, then freeze again for at least an hour.
  4. You can either deep fry these at 375F, or air fry at 375F until golden brown. Season with salt after cooking.
  5. For the sauce, mix together your follow your heart ranch dressing and barbecue sauce to taste, and serve!

You want to make sure you are REALLY salting each dredging step. This is your only seasoning here so make it count! Also if you want to add in any other spices, add them in with bowl #3 (the breadcrumbs).

See I told you, I promise it’s sooooo easy to make & that you’ll fall in love instantly.  Like. Super fucking instantly.

But that’s it! Super easy, super delicious, and definitely something amazing to make when you are craving that comfort food, or really any time, let’s be honest. Once again, I just want to give a big thanks to Follow Your Heart for sponsoring this recipe and allowing me to share it with y’all! It’s truly delicious. As always, if you make this, make sure to tag me @plvntfood / #plvntfood and tag @followyourheart as well, so we can all see it! Love y’all with my cold little heart.
