Looking for something new to spice up your usual brunch routine? Savory French Toast is such a delicious and fun route to take. Super similar to the french toast you know and love, but just replaced with savory spices instead of cinnamon & all those goodies. Top it off with some Lemon Herb Dressing, Scallions, and serve with your favorite breakfast sides & you’ve got yourself one heck of a meal!

I’m really excited to announce that this recipe is in collaboration with Follow Your Heart! They’re one of my favorite brands, and I’ve gotten so many requests to make more recipes using their products from y’all, since they’re so accessible across the US. The products I used in this recipe are their Lemon Herb Salad Dressing & Vegan Egg. They’re so dang good and really send this recipe over the top!

Let’s get into how to make it, shall we? It’s super simple to pull together, really no more difficult than normal french toast!

  • ¼ cup Follow Your Heart Vegan Egg
  • 2 cups regular plain unsweetened soy milk
  • 1 tbsp each of garlic powder, paprika, ground mustard, dried sage, onion powder, salt, black pepper, dried thyme (can do less of this according to preference)
  • 2 tsp cayenne pepper (can adjust to preference)
  • Follow Your Heart Lemon Herb Dressing
  • Sourdough bread slices
  • Roasted Veggies / Breakfast Potatoes / Vegan Bacon or breakfast sausage
  • scallions

These are the ingredients you’ll need! You can substitute for fresh thyme or sage if you have it, and any of the spices you can adjust to your liking. I like mine to be more forward and a bit stronger so I add quite a bit- but start with less & taste / add as you get your batter together!

I also like to personally serve this along side some roasted on the vine cherry tomatoes, breakfast potatoes, and roasted asparagus… but any vegan breakfast sausage / bacon, roasted veggies, fruit, scrambled vegan eggs, etc. will do just fine! Whatever you’d normally serve alongside french toast will do the trick.

Here’s how to make it! It’s stupid easy to do, I promise!

  1. In a bowl, mix together your vegan egg, spices, and soy milk until well combined.  Let sit for about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add a bit of cooking spray.  Lightly dip your bread in the egg mixture & add to the pan.  Cook for a few minutes on each side, until golden brown and the bread lifts from the pan easily.
  3. Serve the French toast with breakfast potatoes, bacon or breakfast sausage, roasted veggies, etc. & top the French toast with lemon herb dressing instead of maple syrup, and chopped scallions.

See I told you, I promise it’s sooooo easy to make & that you’ll fall in love instantly.  Like. Super fucking instantly.

But that’s it! Super easy, super delicious, and definitely something amazing to make for Mother’s Day, or brunch, or really any time, let’s be honest. Once again, I just want to give a big thanks to Follow Your Heart for sponsoring this recipe and allowing me to share it with y’all! It’s truly delicious. As always, if you make this, make sure to tag me @plvntfood / #plvntfood and tag @followyourheart as well, so we can all see it! Love y’all with my cold little heart.
